Artist Statement:
Rather than starting from a given piece of jewelry and decorating it, the challenge that presently occupies me is to make jewellery that is an objectified ornament. I map two-dimensional ornamental patterns derived from early 17th century fabrics into three-dimensional objects. Choice of complexity of patterns and form, as well as ways to place the inevitable distortions leads my present research at the Royal College of Art in London.
